...incredibile la bruttezza di queste canzoni e ancora più incredibile il fatto che questi gruppi hanno avuto e hanno credito...bolsi...pacchiani..tecnicamente dotatissimi ma assolutamente incapaci di scrivere qualcosa di decente...musica che ha fatto più danni della grandine...affossando intere generazioni di ragazzi...inculcandogli l'idea prima per distruggere una canzone...l'assolo....cristo l'assolo......grazie a dio in inghilterra se la passavano male erano tutti incazzati ed è arrivato "joe lo strimpellatore"..

ONCE UPON A TIME...

Recuperi- REM - New Adventure in Hi-Fi

Forse  l’ultimo vero capolavoro dei Rem NAIHF. Incredibilmente sottovalutato è un compendio di  40 anni di musica popolare americana . Rock 'n 'roll ,hard rock ,blues ,country, folk, una babele di suoni che non risulta però stucchevole e fine a stessa anzi il tutto è egregiamente piegato e modellato alle volontà di Stipe e soci. Paesaggi sonori in bianco e nero, melodie memorabili che conquistano testa e cuore (“How The West Was Won And Where It Got Us", "Electrolite", “Be mine”), acide divagazioni(“Leave”), retaggi grunge(“Bittersweet Me", "So Fast So Numb") il tutto pervaso da un senso di malinconia e disillusione verso un sogno, quello americano ,che non esiste più.

Senza dimenticare l’evento che ha turbato non poco la nascita del disco, l’incidente accorso a Bill Berry durante un concerto a Losanna per il "Monster tour", quando un aneurisma celebrale ha quasi rischiato di ucciderlo.

Dopo questo lavoro e senza piu Berry alla batteria i Rem hanno continuato a fare ottimi dischi ma gli ultimi veri sussulti forse sono racchiusi dentro questo capolavoro.

VOLTAGE

J.Mascis “Several Shades of Why”

Visto il nome del personaggio uno si aspetta chitarre dal volume inaudito, distorsioni a go-go e invece niente di tutto questo. L’ex leader dei Dinosaur Jr  stacca completamente la spina ed esce a cena con Neil Young. 40 minuti di folk-rock in cui Mascis si mette completamente a nudo con un disco intimo e viscerale. 40 minuti di melodie dolci e accattivanti. 40 minuti di pura bellezza ed estro creativo. Ero molto scettico all’inizio su questo suo lavoro da solita, soprattutto una volta saputo che sarebbe stato quasi interamente acustico. Dico quasi perché alla propria indole elettrica non sempre sa resistere come nella splendida “Is It Done” e nell’altrettanto riuscita “Where are you?”. Difficile dire quale sia il pezzo migliore, il suo vocione malinconico e indolente ci rapisce ci porta a spasso nella sua anima e ci strattona per tutta la durata del disco; ma se proprio dovessi scegliere direi l’oscura “Very nervous and Love” e l’eterea “Several shades of Why” con i suoi archi mai ingombranti. Disco della completa maturità per l’artista bostoniano, da ascoltare senza distrazioni per assaporarne ogni sfumatura e ve lo dice uno che del cosiddetto folk-rock e dei suoi piagnistei ne ha piene veramente le palle.
